Please make no cuts to IRS funding. Recent investments in the IRS have yielded tremendous results, from recovering $1.3 billion in unpaid taxes from wealthy Americans, to dramatically improving customer service for law-abiding taxpayers.
The IRS has reduced phone wait times from 28 minutes to just 3 minutes, increased call answer rates by 65%, and launched Direct File to help Americans file taxes for free. These improvements help working families even as increased enforcement ensures wealthy tax cheats pay what they owe.
Cutting IRS funding now would be a devastating setback for the cause of tax fairness for working families and a terrible signal to send in advance of next year’s fight over the expiration of parts of the 2017 tax law. I urge you to protect IRS funding and continue the progress we've made in creating a tax system that works for everyone.
