I am very troubled by Donald Trump‘s recent efforts to defund, sabotage, and undermine public broadcasting. I listen to my local NPR radio station every day, and my child is growing up with their programming, as I did. Losing this resource would do nothing for the practical good and would take away a valuable service for so many people. Democracy runs best with an educated populace. Public broadcasting provides non-partisan and helpful programming free of charge to so many people. There’s absolutely no reason to get rid of it, other than the president’s vindictiveness. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting was set up by Congress, and Congress must act now to balance the power of the president and keep him from over running things that are so important to our country. If we want democracy to continue, which I’m assuming you do as much as I do, then we have to stand up against bullies, we have to protect the separation of powers, and we have to support things that educate our citizenry.
