Support H.R. 9638: Permanent Standard Time, Not Permanent DST

To: Rep. Beatty, Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted

From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH

July 14

Please support H.R. 9638, the Sunshine for Our Kids Act of 2026, and move it out of the Committee on Energy and Commerce. This bill does what the failed Sunshine Protection Act got backwards — instead of locking us into permanent daylight saving time, it restores permanent standard time, which aligns with how our bodies actually function and what sleep researchers have long recommended. The twice-yearly clock change is a public health nuisance with real consequences. Standard time keeps morning light in sync with natural wake cycles, which matters especially for children getting up for school. H.R. 9638 also respects state autonomy — any state that wants to keep DST can choose it by law. That's a reasonable compromise. What's not reasonable is continuing a federal mandate that disrupts sleep, increases accident rates, and serves no modern purpose. Back this bill.
