Investigate and Prosecute Polymarket Trader 'Magamyman' for Profiting from Khamenei's Death
To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Self, Sen. Cruz

March 2
I am writing to demand immediate action regarding the Polymarket trader using the username 'Magamyman' who made over $553,000 by placing bets that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would be out of power just before an Israeli strike killed him on Saturday. This individual's identity must be made public, the source of their information must be investigated, and they must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Under U.S. commodity trading laws, making trades based on death and war are illegal because they create financial rewards for violence, human suffering, and geopolitical instability. The timing and accuracy of these trades strongly suggest access to classified information about lethal military operations. On Polymarket alone, half a billion dollars was traded on the timing of U.S. strikes on Iran, raising serious questions about who is profiting from advance knowledge of military actions.
This is not an isolated incident. In January, an anonymous trader made hundreds of thousands of dollars on well-timed bets ahead of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro's arrest. In February, Israeli authorities charged two people with using classified information to place bets on Polymarket about attacks on Iran during a 12-day war in June. The pattern is clear and demands federal investigation.
The situation is further complicated by the Trump administration's decision to drop two federal investigations into Polymarket that were opened under President Biden, despite Donald Trump Jr. serving as an adviser to Polymarket and his venture capital firm 1789 Capital investing millions in the company. This creates an appearance of impropriety that undermines public trust.
I urge you to support Senator Chris Murphy's forthcoming legislation to outlaw betting on death and war, and to demand that the Department of Justice and relevant agencies immediately investigate 'Magamyman,' reveal their identity, determine whether classified information was used, and pursue criminal prosecution. No one should profit from advance knowledge of military strikes that result in human death.
