I am writing to urge you to support impeachment proceedings against the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security following the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old Minneapolis man by federal agents on Saturday. This marks the third shooting by federal agents in Minneapolis this month alone, representing a pattern of violence that demands accountability at the highest levels. According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara, the man was a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry and had no criminal history beyond traffic tickets. Chief O'Hara stated "the video speaks for itself" when asked about DHS claims of self-defense, and noted that local police have "very limited information" because they have not received official reports about what led to the shooting. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described watching video of "more than six masked agents pummeling one of our constituents and shooting him to death." This incident occurred during what DHS called "Operation Metro surge," which has deployed thousands of federal agents to Minneapolis. On January 7, an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three. A week later, another ICE agent shot a Venezuelan immigrant in the leg. Rachel Sayre, director of Minneapolis' emergency management department, confirmed the surge is having "profound repercussions" on the community, requiring activation of the city's emergency operation center. Federal officials attempted to prevent local police from accessing the crime scene, obstructing standard investigative protocols. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty stated "the scene must be secured by local law enforcement for the collection and preservation of evidence." This interference represents a fundamental breakdown in the rule of law. The DHS Secretary bears direct responsibility for authorizing and overseeing operations that have resulted in three shootings in one month. Mayor Frey accurately described this as a "great American city being invaded by its own federal government." I urge you to initiate impeachment proceedings immediately to restore accountability and prevent further loss of life.
