Reject Kids Online Safety Act—Defend Civil Liberties

To: Rep. Larson, Sen. Murphy, Sen. Blumenthal

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) poses a serious threat to online freedom of expression and access to information. Its vague language could grant tech companies and politicians excessive power to censor critical content related to mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, reproductive rights, and other vital topics under the pretext of child protection. While safeguarding children online is important, this legislation risks silencing marginalized voices and restricting access to essential resources. Instead of embracing broad censorship measures that disproportionately harm vulnerable communities, we should pursue genuine solutions. These include robust data privacy protections, regulations on exploitative algorithms, and increased funding for digital literacy education. KOSA represents government overreach masquerading as child safety, and we must reject it to defend civil liberties. I urge you to reconsider your support for KOSA and instead champion legislation that serves the people's interests without compromising fundamental freedoms online. Alternative approaches that balance safety with free expression and access to information are crucial for a truly inclusive and democratic digital space.
