It is deeply concerning that over 162,000 DACA recipients have been cut off from accessing affordable health insurance through the Affordable Care Act in 19 states. The ruling by a North Dakota federal judge prohibiting the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services from allowing DACA recipients to purchase marketplace plans unfairly denies healthcare coverage to a significant population. DACA recipients are hardworking individuals who contribute billions to the economy through taxes and employment. Depriving them of the ability to obtain affordable health coverage not only jeopardizes their well-being but also impacts the broader community's public health and economic productivity. Ensuring access to quality healthcare should be a fundamental right, regardless of immigration status. DACA recipients deserve the same opportunities as other lawfully present immigrants to secure essential medical services and preventive care. Blocking this access exacerbates existing health disparities and places an undue burden on an already vulnerable population. I urge you to take immediate action to reinstate healthcare coverage for DACA recipients in these 19 states. Providing equitable access to the Affordable Care Act aligns with our nation's values of inclusion and compassion, while also promoting a healthier, more productive society. The well-being of our communities should take precedence over divisive political agendas.
