Support Legislation to Ban Surveillance Pricing in Virginia

Virginia needs to follow Maryland's lead and ban surveillance pricing. I'm asking you to introduce or support legislation that prevents retailers from charging different customers different prices for the same product based on their personal data. Maryland just passed the Protection From Predatory Pricing Act, which Governor Wes Moore will sign into law. It stops large retailers from using purchase history, location data, and online behavior to determine how much individual shoppers are willing to pay. This practice unfairly raises costs for everyday essentials, especially as stores adopt digital shelf labels that change prices in real time. Working families already face rising costs for groceries and housing. They shouldn't pay more than their neighbor for the same gallon of milk because an algorithm decided they can afford it. Several states including California, New York, Illinois, Colorado, and New Jersey are already considering similar bans. Virginia should join them. The law can preserve traditional sales and loyalty programs while stopping data-driven price discrimination. This isn't about eliminating discounts. It's about preventing corporations from exploiting personal information to extract maximum profit from each customer.
