The Supreme Court ruled Trump's tariffs illegal, and the government has already paid $81 billion in refunds — almost entirely to corporations. Not one dollar of that has gone to the consumers who actually paid higher prices at the register. That needs to change, and I want to know what you're doing about it.
Companies passed those tariff costs downstream to ordinary people through higher prices on goods. Now those same companies are being made whole while households get nothing. The deficit is still climbing — $1.367 trillion in just the first nine months of this fiscal year — so the government clearly isn't flush with cash to hand out. But if there's $81 billion available to refund importers, there's a conversation to be had about consumer restitution.
Before the administration rolls out another round of tariffs targeting forced labor enforcement and industrial capacity, Congress needs to establish a mechanism that protects consumers, not just corporate bottom lines. I want to see you push for that.
