An Open Letter

To: Sen. Curtis, Rep. Kennedy, Sen. Lee

From: A constituent in American Fork, UT

April 12

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act) and to urge you to vote NO should it come to the floor for a vote. The SAVE Act, while framed as an effort to protect election integrity, is unnecessary and could have deeply harmful consequences. There is no widespread evidence of noncitizens voting in federal elections, and existing laws already make it a crime for noncitizens to vote. This bill appears to be a solution in search of a problem—and one that could lead to voter suppression, bureaucratic delays, and unnecessary barriers for legitimate, eligible voters. I am especially concerned that this legislation would disproportionately impact seniors, students, veterans, low-income Americans, and millions of women who changed their last name after getting married. Many of these individuals could face significant difficulties obtaining the specific documentation required under this act, even though they are fully eligible to vote. We should be focused on making voting more accessible and inclusive, not more complicated or intimidating. Please stand up for the rights of all eligible American voters and vote NO on the SAVE Act.
