Protect healthcare access, reject Medicaid cuts and eligibility rollbacks.

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt, Rep. Graves

From: A constituent in Kansas City, MO

February 24, 2025

The potential target of cutting federal funding for the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion places 20 million low-income Americans at risk of losing vital health insurance coverage, including many of your constituents in rural Missouri. Eliminating the expansion would shift massive costs onto states, forcing many to drop the coverage entirely due to budgetary constraints. This risks increasing the uninsured population and overburdening the healthcare system in rural areas that already face provider shortages. I urge you to reject any proposals to cut Medicaid funding or eligibility as these undermine the program's role as a critical safety net for rural communities. Protecting and strengthening Medicaid upholds our commitment to ensuring all Americans, including your rural Missouri voters, can access the care they need.
