Reject Bill Undermining Diversity and Inclusion in Education
To: Rep. Collins

February 26, 2025
I strongly oppose SB 120, which would prohibit public schools, local education agencies, and public postsecondary institutions from promoting, supporting, or maintaining any programs or activities that advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion. This bill is a direct attack on efforts to create more inclusive and equitable learning environments for all students. Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives are crucial for ensuring that students from all backgrounds have equal access to educational opportunities and feel welcomed and supported in their learning communities. SB 120 would undermine the ability of educational institutions to foster an atmosphere of respect, understanding, and appreciation for different cultures, identities, and perspectives. It would perpetuate systemic barriers and biases that have historically marginalized certain groups of students. By rejecting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, this bill would deprive students of the invaluable educational and social benefits that come from learning in a diverse and inclusive environment. I urge you to vote against SB 120 and instead support policies that promote inclusivity, respect for diversity, and equitable access to education for all students, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability status, or other identities. Our educational institutions should be places where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
