Don't Give in to Legislative Hostage-Taking: Vote NO on the SAVE Act

To: Sen. Moreno, Rep. Beatty, Sen. Husted

From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH

March 14

I am writing to you today as a concerned constituent to urge you to reject the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act and to oppose the current strategy of withholding all legislative progress until this bill is passed. The President’s recent vow to refuse his signature on any new laws—effectively holding the functions of our government hostage for a single piece of legislation—is an affront to the legislative process. This all-or-nothing approach is especially dangerous as it ignores the President's constitutional duty to oversee the executive branch and participate in the legislative process in good faith. By treating every other national priority—from basic government functions to routine economic stability—as a bargaining chip, this administration is prioritizing a singular political agenda over the health and security of the entire country. Furthermore, the SAVE Act seeks to solve a problem that simply does not exist. Tons of research has been done on this, and even the Heritage Foundation was only able to find 100 fraudulent votes out of more than half a billion. Non-citizen voting is statistically non-existent. Adding redundant, high-barrier requirements like documentary proof of citizenship will not "secure" our elections; it will only disenfranchise millions of eligible, tax-paying American citizens who may not have immediate access to a passport or birth certificate. Given the facts around this, it is far more important to keep voting safe and easy, as it is today, rather than spending a lot of time and money to fix a problem that doesn't even exist. I am asking you to: -- Hold the line against the passage of the SAVE Act, particularly the "porked-up" version that includes unrelated social policies. -- Prioritize regular order and the passage of essential funding bills to end the current gridlock. -- Reject the nationalization of elections, which remains the constitutional purview of the states. A healthy democracy requires compromise and the basic functioning of government. I trust that you will choose the needs of your constituents over a manufactured crisis and a legislative blockade.
