Support for H.R.2799 - Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act of 2025

To: Rep. McBride, Sen. Coons, Sen. Blunt Rochester

From: A constituent in Claymont, DE

May 10

I am writing to express my strong support for H.R.2799, the "Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act of 2025." As a concerned citizen deeply committed to public safety and responsible gun ownership, I believe this legislation is a crucial step toward preventing future tragedies and ensuring the safety of our communities. The horrific events of the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, where bump stocks were used to convert semiautomatic firearms into fully automatic weapons, highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive regulation as essential measures to safeguard our communities from the devastating impact of gun violence. And yet, the Supreme Court recently struck down the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' classification of bump stocks as machine guns, leaving open a critical loophole in current gun laws. This bipartisan legislation aims to close this loophole, striking a balance between protecting Second Amendment rights and preventing the misuse of firearms that can lead to mass casualties. The bill's clear definition of semiautomatic firearms and its targeted approach to banning conversion devices are essential measures to safeguard our communities from the devastating impact of gun violence. I urge you to support H.R.2799 and work towards its swift passage. By doing so, you will be taking a significant step towards preventing future mass shootings and ensuring a safer future for all Americans.
