Lakey Riley act, the pardons and No on Hegseth

To: Sen. Kelly, Sen. Gallego

From: A constituent in Flagstaff, AZ

January 23, 2025

I am a constituent in 86005. My name is Anne Hart. First, I am writing to express my extreme disappointment in your yes vote on the Laken Riley Act. I realize the pressure you must have been under to be a border state as we are here in Arizona. Still, this act will do nothing to improve border issues and will likely end up in deporting and jailing people who are not criminals. I hope you think about this more carefully next time. Second, I’m disgusted and frightened by the president's blanket pardon of January 6 rioters—many of them violent. It’s an assault on our rule of law and endangers all Americans. Has the Senator issued a statement denouncing it? If no, I demand to know why you are okay with this. Last, I want the Senator to vote NO on Pete Hegseth’s nomination. Yesterday we learned of new allegations against him—disturbing claims that his second wife feared for her safety because of his behavior. Enough is enough. Hegseth’s record of misconduct, extreme views, and lack of qualifications make him unfit to lead the Department of Defense. The American people want and deserve leadership that prioritizes unity, competence, and the integrity of our institutions. Lisa Murkowski had the courage to say she’ll oppose Hegseth. The Senator should as well. Thank you for your service in such unprecedented and terrible times.
