I am writing to urge you to support or initiate a congressional investigation into recent reports that President Donald Trump accepted the use of a Boeing 757 private jet from the government of Qatar during his presidency, as detailed in a May 11, 2025 Axios article. This gift, reportedly valued in the tens of millions of dollars, appears to represent a serious violation of the Foreign Emoluments Clause (Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution), which explicitly prohibits federal officials from accepting gifts or benefits from foreign states without congressional consent.
The implications of this matter are deeply concerning. First, the acceptance of such a lavish gift from a foreign government directly contravenes constitutional safeguards designed to prevent corruption and foreign influence. Second, this incident must be viewed in context: Qatar engaged in significant business dealings with Trump-linked entities during his presidency, including a recently announced multi-billion dollar real estate deal, raising legitimate questions about whether this gift improperly influenced U.S. foreign policy decisions.
As your constituent, I strongly believe Congress must take action to investigate this matter thoroughly. At minimum, I request that you demand full transparency from the administration regarding these allegations and support an impeachment inquiry if evidence confirms a constitutional violation. Furthermore, I urge you to advocate for stronger enforcement mechanisms to prevent such potential abuses of power in the future.
The integrity of our constitutional system depends on holding all public officials, regardless of office or party, accountable to the law. I appreciate your attention to this serious matter and look forward to your response regarding what actions you intend to take.
