I am writing to you as a concerned citizen who deeply values the preservation and accessibility of our national parks, forests, and wildlife habitats. Recent cuts to staff in the National Park Service and the U.S. Forest Service, particularly those initiated by the Trump administration, have caused serious concerns for both public safety and the long-term sustainability of these vital spaces.
The services provided by park staff are indispensable to the enjoyment and safety of millions of visitors each year. From maintaining trails and facilities to ensuring the safety of hikers and visitors in often remote and hazardous locations, the work of these dedicated professionals is essential. Unfortunately, the recent mass terminations have left these services severely underfunded and understaffed, threatening the integrity of these natural treasures.
As someone who values outdoor spaces for recreation, education, and conservation, I ask you to advocate for the restoration of funding and staffing for our national parks and forests. The impacts of reduced staffing are already being felt—longer entrance lines, closed trails, and delays in maintenance and emergency response. These cuts not only affect the visitor experience but also undermine vital conservation efforts to protect endangered species and maintain the health of our ecosystems.
Our national parks and public lands are a shared heritage that must be protected for future generations. I urge you to support policies that prioritize adequate funding for the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and other conservation agencies. Ensuring that these services remain well-staffed and properly funded is crucial to preserving our natural environments and promoting sustainable tourism.
Thank you for your attention to this important issue. I trust that you will advocate for the protection of our parks and public lands and ensure that the staff needed to maintain and protect them are supported.
