Oppose SB 2188 / HB 4660 — Boca Chica Beach belongs to Texas, not Musk/SpaceX

April 12
Oppose SB 2188 / HB 4660.
As a lifelong Texan who spends the majority of my vacations on the Texas Gulf Coast, I believe in open beaches. The Texas Gulf Coast generates Billions of dollars for our state because of its unique nature. The biodiversity of Texas’ coastline is part of our state’s greatness and why so many people spend their vacation dollars here. Boating, birdwatching, sightseeing, fishing, swimming, sunbathing on the sand, the list goes on!
Currently, responsibility for closing beaches due to safety reasons rests at the county level. There’s no reason to change what’s already working.
As precious as the Texas coastline is, I don’t want to see any part of it managed by a single city. (Especially not a “company town” like Starbase will be.) Starbase is not yet a real city. It makes no sense to preemptively create a legislation that accommodates a non-existent municipality.
This bill is a waste of time and taxpayer funds.
