ICE IS OUT OF CONTROL!
To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Sessions, Sen. Cruz
From: A constituent in Huntington, TX
June 13
I am writing to express deep concern over the escalating practices of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), many of which are undermining basic human rights, due process, and community stability. Under recent directives, ICE has dramatically increased enforcement actions, including arresting non-criminal immigrants, conducting large-scale worksite raids, and even making arrests inside immigration courts. This aggressive approach does not prioritize public safety — instead, it spreads fear and instability in immigrant communities across the country. The proposed expansion of expedited removal — allowing deportations without court hearings — threatens due process protections. The plan to conduct raids in sensitive locations like schools, hospitals, and religious institutions further endangers vulnerable populations. The backlog in immigration courts, coupled with rules that allow judges to dismiss cases without hearings, compounds these concerns. Adding to this, 70% of detained immigrants face legal proceedings without an attorney, as they are not entitled to government-funded legal representation. ICE is now detaining nearly 50,000 people, exceeding the number Congress has authorized. Conditions in detention centers are deteriorating, with reports of overcrowding, lack of medical care, solitary confinement abuses, and preventable deaths. The administration is expanding private and military-run detention facilities, and even proposing to outsource detention to foreign prisons. The return of family detention is especially troubling, as it exposes children and parents to trauma and long-term harm. These practices not only violate human rights but also carry severe economic consequences. Raids targeting essential workers — especially in agriculture — are disrupting industries and threatening our food supply. Mass deportations would worsen labor shortages and cost the U.S. billions in GDP losses. The Project 2025 immigration platform would further accelerate deportations, restrict asylum, and expand detention infrastructure. These proposals are not only cruel but fundamentally un-American. I urge you to stand up against these inhumane policies. Congress must uphold due process, restrict ICE’s overreach, ensure humane detention conditions, and reject any attempt to normalize fear-based governance. Our laws should reflect our values — justice, dignity, and respect for all people.
