The current Supreme Court is no longer a neutral arbiter of law — it is an active accelerant of authoritarianism, and it is destroying our country. In just a few years, this Court has: • Granted Donald Trump sweeping criminal immunity, signaling that a president who instigated an insurrection is “within the bounds” of acceptable political behavior. • Gutted Section 2 and Section 5 protections of the Voting Rights Act, giving Republican legislatures a green light to redraw districts that dilute Black and minority voting power — Jim Crow-era tactics dressed up in modern legal language. • Unleashed Citizens United, replacing the principle of one-person-one-vote with one-dollar-one-vote and corrupting every level of our politics. • Issued rulings — and silences — that function as dog whistles, giving permission to officials like Senator Hawley to launch retaliatory investigations of states like California while ignoring identical maps drawn by Republicans in Texas and the South. These are not honest legal disagreements. They are choices — partisan, cynical, and corrosive to self-government. Several justices accepted lavish, undisclosed gifts from billionaires with business before the Court. That is not jurisprudence. That is corruption. And Trump issues dog whistles and overt threats to the far right authoritarians on the court almost daily. My clear ask: 1. Publicly support and co-sponsor binding Supreme Court ethics legislation with enforceable recusal rules, financial disclosure, and an independent inspector general. 2. Vote to impeach Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito for repeated, documented ethics violations and undisclosed gifts. 3. Co-sponsor legislation to expand the Supreme Court and impose 18-year term limits on justices to restore balance and accountability. 4. Pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act to restore the protections this Court has stripped away. Silence is complicity.
