Prioritize real policy solutions over partisan battles
To: Rep. Golden
From: A constituent in Lisbon, ME
June 24
The context provided discusses an effort by Rep. Al Green to launch another impeachment inquiry against former President Trump over his decision to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities without congressional approval. While this was a controversial action, the House voted in a bipartisan manner to table Rep. Green's impeachment resolution 344-79. I understand the desire to hold leaders accountable for illegal actions, as the oath of office demands putting the Constitution and rule of law first. Pursuing impeachment or other means of holding the president responsible for abuse of power, circumventing Congress, or violating their constitutional duties is a valid exercise of Congressional oversight. Representation requires prioritizing rule of law over partisan interests. There are substantive concerns over President Trump's conduct that merit further investigation and accountability measures to uphold democratic norms. Ultimately, the choice is yours on how to best serve your constituents and defend the Constitution. But retaining public trust by impartially investigating alleged high crimes and enforcing checks on executive power may be the wisest path forward.
