I am writing to you today with deep respect for your career-long commitment to the principles of justice and your willingness to stand as a voice of conscience in the House of Representatives. As we face the administration’s increasingly aggressive rhetoric regarding the "taking" of Greenland, I am encouraged by your history of resisting executive overreach and defending the rights of the self-governing. The suggestion that the United States can unilaterally annex or "buy" a sovereign people is a rejection of the very democratic values you have worked so hard to uphold. Treating a nation as property—especially a NATO ally like Denmark—is a dangerous step backward toward an era of imperialism that ignores the right to self-determination. I know that you have never been one to stay silent when the principles of fairness and human dignity are at stake, and your leadership is needed now more than ever to ensure that our foreign policy remains rooted in moral authority. As the FY2027 legislative cycle begins this February, I want to offer my full support for any efforts you might lead to bring this issue to the forefront. I hope you will consider using your platform to: Lead a Call for Moral Clarity: Speak on the House floor to reaffirm that the United States must be a champion of sovereignty and international law, rather than a threat to its own allies. Strengthen Legislative Guardrails: Support language in the upcoming NDAA and appropriations bills that would prohibit the use of federal funds for the non-consensual acquisition of territory, ensuring our tax dollars are not used to undermine global stability. Mobilize for Human Rights: Work with your colleagues to ensure that the voices of the people of Greenland are respected and that their right to determine their own future is defended by the United States Congress.
