I am writing to urge you to use your platform as Governor to publicly condemn the Trump Administration's 33-page National Security Strategy document released last Thursday and to call for the impeachment and removal of President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. This strategy document represents a dangerous departure from American values and threatens our national security. Most alarmingly, it adopts the Great Replacement Theory, a racist conspiracy theory that has fueled violence globally, claiming that certain NATO members will become "majority non-European" within decades. This language, which former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt noted "otherwise only finds coming out of some bizarre minds of the Kremlin," has no place in official U.S. policy. The document actively calls for the United States to "cultivate resistance" within European nations against their democratically elected governments while praising "patriotic European parties," a clear reference to far-right, anti-immigration movements. Former French Ambassador to the U.S. Gérard Araud correctly identified this section as a "far-right pamphlet" that confirms perceptions of Trump as an "enemy of Europe." This represents unprecedented interference in allied democracies and fundamentally undermines NATO. The Administration has already acted on this aggressive posture, deploying the largest military force in the Americas in decades and conducting over 20 lethal strikes since early September, killing more than 87 people. Meanwhile, Trump shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development earlier this year, halting aid to multiple African countries, which experts say will lead to thousands of deaths. Even Daniel Fried, a distinguished fellow at the Atlantic Council who served under Presidents Clinton and Bush, noted the strategy's "internal incoherence," particularly its ideological hostility toward the European allies we need to counter adversaries like China. As a governor who has consistently defended democratic values, your voice carries significant weight. I urge you to publicly condemn this strategy document and call for impeachment and removal proceedings to protect American democracy and our international standing.
