Block federal actions against public lands.

To: Sen. Blumenthal, Rep. Himes, Sen. Murphy

From: A constituent in Westport, CT

February 1

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to block any federal measures that could harm the health and future of our national parks, public lands, and forests. As you know, these lands are crucial not only for environmental preservation but also for the cultural, recreational, and economic benefits they provide to millions of Americans each year. I am deeply concerned about several recent executive orders and actions, particularly those initiated under President Trump’s administration, that threaten the integrity of our public lands. According to the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), these orders could significantly weaken protections for our parks, jeopardizing their ability to serve future generations. One of the most alarming potential impacts is the reduction of protections for national monuments. Executive orders have sought to diminish the size of monuments like Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, opening them up to resource extraction such as mining and drilling. These lands are not only culturally significant but also vital for biodiversity, serving as refuges for endangered species. Moreover, actions aimed at weakening environmental regulations related to air quality, water quality, and habitat protection could also harm national parks by increasing pollution and degrading ecosystems. Such changes are in direct opposition to the public’s desire to preserve our national treasures in their natural state for recreation, education, and conservation. I am particularly concerned that these actions threaten the ability of parks to mitigate climate change, as many protected areas help absorb carbon and regulate ecosystems that support broader environmental health. By undermining the protections for these lands, we risk exacerbating the climate crisis while also reducing the spaces that provide Americans with the benefits of nature. I implore you to stand up for the long-term protection of our national parks and public lands by opposing these harmful federal actions. I believe that sustainable stewardship, combined with strong conservation policies, will allow us to preserve these areas for future generations while also ensuring they remain a source of inspiration, recreation, and scientific discovery. Thank you for considering the urgent importance of this matter. I trust you will take action to protect the invaluable resources that our national parks and public lands represent.
