I am writing to urge you to support impeachment proceedings against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. His conduct has repeatedly endangered national security, violated military protocol, and potentially broken federal law. On March 24, 2025, The Atlantic's editor-in-chief reported being accidentally included in a Signal group chat where Secretary Hegseth shared highly sensitive US military strike plans for Yemen two hours before the strike occurred. This chat included his wife, lawyer, and others without security clearance or need to know. On March 26, 2025, The Atlantic released text messages proving classified attack plans were shared openly, despite Trump officials denying this under oath before Congress. Former senior intelligence officers called this a shocking risk to national security. Defense Department officials noted this Signal use could violate the Espionage Act. Beyond compromising classified information, Hegseth has demonstrated dangerous judgment in military operations. On December 1, 2025, The Washington Post reported that he gave explicit orders to kill survivors of an initial September 2nd strike on a boat in the Caribbean. Lawmakers from both parties are calling this follow-up strike a potential war crime and have pushed for a bipartisan investigation into these unauthorized boat strikes. Hegseth has also undermined military discipline and readiness. On September 30, 2025, he announced changes including fewer consequences for sexual misconduct and war crimes during a highly political speech attacking women in the military. On September 24, 2025, he threatened to revoke journalist access for reporting unclassified information and eliminated the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services, a decades-old advisory group. Additionally, on July 10, 2025, Hegseth unilaterally paused weapons delivery to Ukraine without informing the administration, causing chaos before Trump reversed the decision. These actions demonstrate Hegseth is unfit to lead our armed forces and poses a clear danger to national security. I urge you to support his impeachment immediately.
