Investigate DNI Gabbard's Blocking of Intelligence and Whistleblower
Complaint
To: Rep. Goldman, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz
From: A verified voter in Fort Worth, TX
February 7
I am writing to urge you to use Congress's constitutional oversight authority to investigate Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard's handling of critical intelligence and her office's suppression of a whistleblower complaint for eight months.
Last spring, the National Security Agency detected evidence of an unusual phone call between an individual associated with foreign intelligence and a person close to Donald Trump. Rather than allowing NSA officials to distribute this information through normal channels, Gabbard took a paper copy directly to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. One day later, she instructed the NSA not to publish the intelligence report and directed that the highly classified details be transmitted only to her office.
A whistleblower filed a formal complaint on May 21 alleging that Gabbard blocked highly classified intelligence from routine dispatch. The law requires agencies to relay whistleblower complaints to Congress within 21 days. This complaint was issued in May but wasn't received by Congress until February. As Senator Mark Warner of Virginia stated, this nine-month delay appears to be an effort to
"bury the complaint."
The independence of the inspector general's investigation is also compromised. On May 9, just two weeks after the whistleblower first made contact on April 17, Gabbard assigned one of her top advisers, Dennis Kirk, a co-author of Project 2025, to work in the inspector general's office. Acting Inspector General Tamara A. Johnson then dismissed the complaint on June 6, claiming she "could not determine if the allegations appear credible."
American taxpayers fund our intelligence agencies to protect national security, not to shield politically sensitive information from proper oversight. Congress has the authority and responsibility to investigate this matter thoroughly, obtain the underlying NSA intelligence directly, and hold accountable anyone who violated the law. I urge you to demand full transparency, support independent investigation, and ensure that no official is above the law regardless of political affiliation.
