Big Ag slipped the extreme "Save Our Bacon Act" into the House Farm Bill, and now they are trying to do the same in the Senate. This is an attempt by massive meat monopolies to eliminate our right to demand better food for our families.
Corporate giants already control the vast majority of our food supply. Voters in states like California passed Proposition 12 to reject overcrowding and extreme confinement of animals tied to their never-ending corporate greed. The Supreme Court agreed. Yet now these corporations are trying to work with their allies in Congress to manipulate the law to permanently strip every state in America of its ability to set better standards for how the meat your family eats is produced.
This bill does nothing for everyday farmers or consumers. If this passes, independent farmers using higher welfare practices will be driven out of business as monopolies dominate even more of the market. Chinese-owned Smithfield alone already controls 1 in 4 pigs in the United States. High-quality pork will become so expensive that only the wealthiest Americans will be able to afford it. We shouldn't have to choose between affordability and quality food. Big Pork should know we don’t want them pushing a bill that prioritizes corporate profits over Americans' demand for healthy food.
Vote NO on this abomination!
