Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is defending one of our most basic American principles: no taxation without representation. The fifty-six signers of the Declaration of Independence risked everything because colonists were taxed by a Parliament in which they had no representation. Our founders fought a revolution over this principle. It is foundational to American democracy. This is about the Constitution. This is exactly what our founders fought for. You all swore an oath to it. We stand with Kris Mayes. We respect her courage, her integrity, and her commitment to the people she serves. She is showing the country that defending democracy requires courage, and that representation is non-negotiable.
