Ted Cruz’s bill S4340 should be opposed in the Senate. The fossil fuel industry has been running roughshod over all attempts to move the world’s energy production into the 21st century. They covered up their knowledge of global warming decades ago, and have been running a vicious mis- and disinformation campaign against climate science and scientists. Why should they be shielded from lawsuits? A lawsuit is not always a “shakedown,” in Cruz’s colorful name for his bill, although the weaponization of the court system is certainly a game Republicans know how to play.
