Demand due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Van Duyne

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

April 25

I am writing to ask why Kilmar Abrego Garcia has still not been returned to the United States to be tried for his alleged crimes, as required by the U.S. Constitution’s Fifth Amendment. This Republican administration admitted Mr. Abrego Garcia’s rendition to El Salvador’s brutal CECOT prison was in error. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that Mr. Abrego Garcia must be returned to the United States. The White House has pointedly ignored that. Adhering to the U.S. Constitution is not optional. ‘Innocent until proven guilty’ is the bedrock of our legal system. In continuing to flout the law and ignore the judicial branch of our government, this Republican administration is undermining any sense of judicial authority in America. Congress has the ability to remedy that. However, if you and your colleagues continue to stand by and take no action in this matter, the United States will continue its accelerating slide into authoritarianism. My wife and I, again, urge you to fulfil your oath to defend the Constitution and compel this administration to bring Mr. Abrego Garcia back to the United States to be charged and tried, as the Fifth Amendment requires. The future of our republic depends on it.
