An Open Letter

I am writing to demand an explanation for your continued silence following the racist video posted by President Donald Trump. The content was not ambiguous, not accidental, and not defensible. It was overtly racist, relied on dehumanizing stereotypes, and deliberately inflamed racial division for political gain. When the President of the United States circulates racist propaganda, it is not “speech” in the abstract—it is the use of state power to legitimize bigotry. History is clear on this point: when leaders normalize racism, violence, discrimination, and democratic backsliding follow. This is not hypothetical. It is documented fact. Your failure to publicly condemn this behavior sends a clear message: that racism is tolerable so long as it is politically convenient. That is unacceptable. Members of Congress swear an oath to uphold the Constitution, not to protect a president from accountability—especially when that president repeatedly violates the basic principles of equality and civil rights embedded in our democracy. I want to know: • Why have you not condemned the President’s racist video? • Do you believe this behavior is appropriate for the highest office in the country? • At what point does silence become complicity? Racism is not a “difference of opinion.” It is a threat to the safety, dignity, and civil rights of millions of Americans. If Congress cannot draw a firm line against it—especially when it comes from the President—then Congress has failed in its most basic duty. I expect a clear, public response. Anything less will be understood as tacit approval.
