Respect Alaskans, Restore Denali

To: Rep. Hamadeh, Sen. Gallego, Sen. Kelly

From: A verified voter in Phoenix, AZ

February 14

Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski has introduced a bill to restore the name Denali to Alaska’s tallest mountain, honoring the name used by Alaska Natives and non-Native Alaska residents. As an Arizonan who lived in Alaska for a few years and can attest to the gravity, breathing beauty, and almost incomprehensible scale of the Alaska natural landscape throughout the seasons, I urge you to support her bill. This is not a partisan issue. It is a matter of maintaining clarity, respect for the state’s history that predates its joining our union, and acknowledging that no benefit comes from abandoning the name that everyone in the state uses for their own well-known and treasured landmarks. Thank you.
