I'm writing as your constituent to ask you to cosponsor and actively support two bills before this Congress ends on January 3.
House: please cosponsor H.R. 9442, the Artificial Intelligence Data Center Moratorium Act, and H.R. 10538, the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act. Senate: please cosponsor S. 5493, the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act.
Communities are absorbing the costs of the AI buildout. Families see higher electric bills and strained water supplies. Public money goes to tax breaks for data centers that create few jobs. Entry-level jobs are disappearing for young workers. The companies keep the profits, and the rest of us pay.
H.R. 9442 pauses new and expanded AI data centers until Congress passes real safeguards. Under those safeguards, any data center built afterward could not raise our utility bills or harm the environment. Affected communities would have a say, and the projects would receive no public subsidies.
The Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act would pause the most advanced AI development until a federal regulator sets safety rules and review processes. It would also prohibit building AI systems that exceed human capabilities or that humans cannot control.
This isn't a partisan issue. Voters across the spectrum support a pause. Please add your name to these bills before the session ends and let me know where you stand.
