PETITION TO STOP THE TEXAS VAPE BAN (SB 2024)

To: Gov. Abbott, Sen. Hagenbuch, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Rep. Patterson

From: A constituent in Frisco, TX

June 25

We, the undersigned, oppose Senate Bill 2024, the Texas vape ban set to take effect on September 1, 2025. This law will ban most disposable vapes, restrict product design, and heavily limit where vaping products can be sold or advertised. Many of us used vaping to quit smoking after years of failed attempts. Without access to the flavored or disposable vapes that worked for us, we risk returning to cigarettes, which are far more harmful to health. This is not a step forward for public health — it’s a giant leap backward. This law unfairly: • Targets adult smokers and vape users, not just youth. • Bans products that are legal federally or currently undergoing FDA review. • Hurts small businesses and convenience stores, costing jobs and tax revenue. • Treats adult consumers like criminals for making safer health choices. We support reasonable regulation, not prohibition. Texas should focus on enforcing age restrictions and punishing bad actors — not banning life-saving alternatives for everyone. Similar bans in Michigan and New York were overturned in court for being vague or overreaching. SB 2024 is no different — it’s broad, discriminatory, and harmful to public health and personal freedom. We respectfully urge the Texas Legislature and Governor Abbott to: • Repeal or amend SB 2024. • Protect adult access to legal, regulated vaping products. • Support harm reduction, not punishment. Vaping helped us quit. Don’t force us — and thousands of others — back to cigarettes.
