Demand immediate resignation or impeachment of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth

I am writing to demand the immediate resignation—or, if necessary, the impeachment—of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth for willful violations of federal law, reckless mishandling of classified information, and conduct that poses a direct threat to U.S. national security. Recent reports from CNN and Mother Jones, corroborated by The New York Times, reveal that Secretary Hegseth has been engaging in secretive, unauthorized communications through encrypted messaging platforms such as Signal to discuss top-secret military operations—including U.S. activities in Yemen and classified briefings on national security matters. More egregiously, he has been sharing this classified information not only with unauthorized political operatives, but also with private individuals including his wife, his brother, and his personal attorney—none of whom possess the proper security clearances or legal authority to access sensitive military data. This is a blatant breach of national security protocol and a potential violation of the Espionage Act. The implications of this misconduct are enormous. At a time when the global security environment is unstable and American military lives are at stake, Secretary Hegseth has bypassed the chain of command, exposed classified materials, and compromised the integrity of the Department of Defense by treating matters of war and national security as casual political conversation. His behavior not only endangers lives—it fundamentally undermines the principle of civilian oversight of the military and erodes public trust in the security apparatus of the United States. If any military officer or civilian analyst had engaged in similar conduct, they would be under immediate criminal investigation and likely stripped of their security clearances. The same standard must apply to Secretary Hegseth. No one is above the law. In light of these grave revelations, I urge Congress to take immediate action to protect the integrity of our national defense: 1. Publicly demand Secretary Hegseth’s resignation from his post as Secretary of Defense. 2. Initiate a full congressional investigation into his mishandling of classified information and unauthorized disclosures. 3. If the facts warrant—and they clearly do—introduce articles of impeachment to remove him from office. This is not a matter of politics—it is a matter of national security, rule of law, and constitutional duty. Congress must not allow these violations to go unchecked. The safety of our troops, the trust in our institutions, and the security of our nation depend on swift, decisive action.
