Support the AI Data Center Moratorium Act Now

To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Liccardo

From: A verified voter in Saratoga, CA

June 25

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to co-sponsor and vote yes on the AI Data Center Moratorium Act. The unchecked expansion of AI data centers is straining our power grids, draining local water supplies, and locking communities into decades of fossil fuel dependency — all to serve the profit margins of a handful of corporations. We need a pause now, before the infrastructure is built and the damage is done. This isn't about stopping innovation. It's about making sure the public isn't left holding the bill for private industry's energy appetite. Ordinary data centers already consume a staggering and growing share of national electricity, and do affect ratepayers bills. and without federal guardrails, that growth will outpace our grid's capacity and undermine our climate commitments. AI Data Centers, to support the AI effort, are worse. Without federal guardrails and real, enforceable standards, that growth will outpace our grid's capacity and undermine our climate commitments. Industry promises are empty. I don’t trust any of them. They are trying to win a race for supremacy at everyone else’s expense Support this moratorium and give Congress the time it needs to set real standards before approving the next wave of construction. Thank you.
