An Open Letter

To: Sen. Fukunaga, Rep. Garrett, Gov. Green

From: A constituent in Honolulu, HI

January 20

End the practice of solitary confinement in our prisons. Not only is it consistently abused by our correction officers for minor infractions, but it's damaging to the mental health and well-being of those incarcerated. Making misguided people but otherwise normal people, dangerous and unhealthy and a risk to others and themselves. There can be no room for wiggle room on this issue. The people in our prisons are people, and we cannot pretend that they aren't.
