Subject: Address Fraudulent Ads on Meta Platforms
I’m asking you to take action to protect consumers from the growing number of deceptive and fraudulent ads running on Meta’s platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. I’ve personally been scammed multiple times by companies advertising there — businesses that misrepresent products, fail to deliver orders, or disappear after taking payment.
Meta profits from these ads, yet consumers have almost no recourse. The volume of fraud suggests a systemic failure in Meta’s ad‑screening and enforcement processes. When a platform earns revenue from advertising, it should also be responsible for ensuring those ads come from legitimate businesses.
Please support stronger federal oversight of online advertising platforms, including:
• Verifying businesses before allowing them to advertise
• Holding platforms accountable when they repeatedly host fraudulent ads
• Strengthening FTC tools for digital consumer protection
• Requiring transparency around ad removals, fraud complaints, and enforcement
Consumers deserve basic safety and honesty in online advertising. Thank you for your attention to this issue.
