An Open Letter

To: Rep. Begich, Sen. Murkowski, Sen. Sullivan

From: A constituent in Anchorage, AK

April 11

I’m writing to you out of deep concern about what’s happening with the Department of Government Efficiency, also known as DOGE, and the dangerous level of access it has been given to our federal systems. I hope you’ll take a stand and help put a stop to this before real damage is done. Under Elon Musk’s direction, DOGE operatives have been allowed into multiple government agencies, including the Treasury, Social Security, Medicare, and Labor. These are systems that hold some of the most sensitive personal and financial data in the country. Having access to multiple systems at once goes against everything we are taught. The operatives being granted access are not public servants. They are not held to the same standards, oversight, or accountability. That alone is cause for serious concern. Even worse, reports show that DOGE staff have connected their own personal devices to secure government networks, completely disregarding basic cybersecurity protocols. This puts millions of Americans at risk. Experts have warned that this kind of behavior makes us vulnerable to cyberattacks, data leaks, and serious national security threats. It is reckless and unacceptable. There are also very real concerns about DOGE having access to confidential whistleblower files, especially from OSHA. Some of Musk’s companies have already been under investigation for workplace violations. Giving his operatives access to this kind of sensitive information could expose whistleblowers to retaliation and undo years of hard-won worker protections. Thirteen state attorneys general have already filed lawsuits to stop this. That alone should be a major red flag. I am asking you to take immediate steps to block DOGE from accessing any federal systems. This kind of unchecked private involvement in public infrastructure is dangerous and deeply inappropriate. We need to strengthen our cybersecurity, not weaken it. We need public accountability, not private influence. Please do what is right to protect the security, privacy, and trust of the American people.
