An Open Letter

To: Sen. Curtis, Rep. Kennedy, Sen. Lee

From: A constituent in Holladay, UT

March 31

ICE is spending unimaginable amounts of money to build "detention centers" across the country. They've purchased a warehouse in Salt Lake City for $145M, they're refusing any city or code inspections except for the fire department, and they're planning on imprisoning up to 10,000 people there without allowing local officials to ensure it's fit for human habitation. This is just one of many concentration camps they're building with no other purpose than to detain large groups of immigrants. Why do we need the ability to imprison so many people? With that level of detainment, it's impossible to imagine due process is occurring properly for any of them. Why is ICE spending this kind of money when we're at war, the economy is falling apart, and important programs that actually help citizens survive have been cut due to lack of budget? ICE needs to be reined in, and Congress must take action immediately.
