Dissolve The Brutal ICE, Reform Broken The Immigration System.

July 31
I am writing to urge you to take bold and decisive action to dismantle U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an agency that has long operated with authoritarian force and unacceptable secrecy against both immigrants and legal U.S. citizens. Its continued existence represents a threat to civil liberties, democratic accountability, and basic human dignity. ICE has repeatedly engaged in oppressive, dehumanizing practices: separating families, raiding homes and workplaces without proper oversight, detaining legal residents and citizens, and deploying surveillance technologies to harass communities. This agency has militarized its operations to a degree that is both dangerous and undemocratic. Agents are routinely masked and outfitted with military-grade equipment, creating fear rather than trust and treating neighborhoods as war zones. As part of the necessary steps toward ICE's dissolution, I call on Congress to immediately enact measures to unmask and demilitarize ICE agents, ending the use of military-style uniforms, armored vehicles, and anonymous tactical gear. Law enforcement agents operating on U.S. soil should not be shielded from identification. Their actions must be subject to full transparency and accountability. A free society cannot tolerate secret police or militarized crackdowns on civilians and migrants. Beyond ending ICE’s abusive practices, we must replace our immigration enforcement system with one that treats all people with dignity and compassion. The United States urgently needs real immigration reform, one that streamlines and simplifies the process of obtaining legal status and citizenship. The current system is slow, expensive, and riddled with bureaucratic hurdles that make lawful immigration nearly impossible for working-class and marginalized people. I urge you to: 1. Sponsor or support legislation to defund and formally dissolve ICE. Mandate the demilitarization and full identification of immigration enforcement officers. 2. Support the creation of a community-based, non-punitive immigration agency that centers human rights and due process. 3. Advance comprehensive immigration reform to reduce barriers to naturalization and make lawful residence more accessible to those seeking to live and contribute here. This is not just about policy; it is about our values. The United States should not be a place where families live in fear of armed raids or opaque detentions. We must reject a system rooted in criminalization and replace it with one rooted in justice, care, and fairness. Please do not let the United States fall down the same dark path that regimes such as Nazi Germany went down by continuing to be complacent with brutality, dehumanization, and despair against people who do not warrant it, and instead promote a real alternative to our broken systems that enable this cruelty. The wheels of history will turn, and it will judge you for your role in it.
