Israel arms embargo

To: V.P. Harris

From: A constituent in Manteca, CA

August 20

An arms embargo against Israel is imperative to stop the devastating violence and loss of innocent Palestinian lives in Gaza. The indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas, including schools, by Israeli forces is an egregious violation of human rights and international law. It is unconscionable for the United States to continue supplying weapons enabling these atrocities. America's complicity in this conflict has already cost far too many Palestinian lives, exemplified by the horrific strike on a school that killed 12 people, including children. No amount of lip service expressing sympathy can justify our government's material support for such war crimes against a people being systematically displaced and oppressed. As the world bears witness to these injustices, the moral imperative to end US military aid to Israel and impose an immediate arms embargo is clear. Not only would it prevent American culpability in future massacres, but it could pressure Israel to pursue a just peace respecting Palestinian rights and self-determination. Continuing the current policy is unacceptable and will further undermine America's credibility on human rights. The protesters outside the Democratic convention have taken a courageous stand by pledging to withhold votes unless real action is taken. I urge you to listen to their moral clarity and show true leadership by supporting legislation to halt arms transfers enabling this unconscionable oppression. The path forward requires accountability, not perpetuating an unjust status quo. It is time for a definitive pivot to defend human rights and work towards a resolution guaranteeing freedom, security and dignity for all.
