No Military in Our Cities. No Pay Cuts for Federal Workers.

To: Rep. Pocan, Sen. Johnson, Sen. Baldwin

From: A constituent in Madison, WI

October 7

I’m writing to express deep concern over two alarming developments: 1. Militarized Deployment of the National Guard The deployment of National Guard troops to American cities without a legitimate emergency is a dangerous misuse of power. It undermines civilian control, threatens democratic norms, and puts both communities and service members at risk. The Guard exists to support neighbors in times of disaster—not to serve as political props. I urge you to publicly oppose this escalation and demand accountability from the administration. 2. Threats to Federal Workers During the Shutdown Reports that President Trump may withhold back pay from furloughed federal employees are outrageous. These workers are legally guaranteed compensation under a law he signed in 2019. The shutdown is not their fault—it stems from Republican refusal to extend healthcare subsidies. Punishing workers to advance a harmful agenda that strips healthcare from Americans is unacceptable. I expect you to defend federal employees and reject any attempt to deny them the pay they’ve earned. Congress must act swiftly and decisively. These abuses of power cannot go unchecked.
