Kilmar Abrego Garcia must be freed

To: Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

April 14

I am writing to express my dire concerns regarding the deportation—without due process—of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador, an action this Republican administration admitted in a recent court filing was an “administrative error.” Due process at the federal level is guaranteed by the US Constitution’s Fifth Amendment. It declares no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without notice of the offense, an opportunity to be heard, and an impartial tribunal to etermine if the individual is guilty of any crimes. There is no record of Mr. Abrego Garcia ever being charged with any crime in the United States or El Salvador. In refusing to provide him the opportunity to defend himself in court, this administration has blatantly violated the Fifth Amendment in this matter. Last week the Supreme Court ruled unanimously Mr. Abrego Garcia should be returned to the United States as soon as possible. This Republican administration is still refusing to comply with that ruling. Is this what the contemporary Republican party stands for? Can our Constitution, and the rule of law, to be ignored without consequence? This administration must immediately bring home Mr. Abrego Garcia and others like him who committed no crimes. Please honor the Constitution, which you swore to uphold, and demand Mr. Abrego Garcia be returned to the United States immediately.
