I urge you to support the Fairness to Freedom Act, which would establish a universal right to federally funded legal representation for people facing removal who cannot afford an attorney.
The outcome of these cases can mean permanent separation from family, years in detention, or even return to danger. But today, thousands of people, including children, are forced to defend themselves against government attorneys without the help of a lawyer, simply because they cannot afford one.
Forcing people to face deportation alone simply because they can’t afford legal representation exacerbates the systemic injustices that have long harmed immigrant communities. We must do better to ensure that everyone facing deportation in the immigration system has a fighting chance to remain with their families and communities.
As your constituent, I urge you to help advance this critical legislation today.
