Support the Democratic proposal to restore funding for TSA, FEMA, and other essential agencies while excluding ICE and Customs and Border Protection from this appropriations bill. These immigration enforcement agencies already received $75 billion in the previous domestic policy bill and don't need more money now. TSA workers shouldn't be forced to work without pay because Republicans are holding them hostage to protect what Sen. Raphael Warnock correctly called "an unaccountable paramilitary force on our streets." Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and airports nationwide are experiencing severe delays. FEMA funds are dwindling. These consequences are real and immediate. ICE has demonstrated it cannot be trusted with additional resources while conducting operations that terrorize communities. The violence in Minneapolis earlier this year showed exactly why Democrats are right to demand concrete legal changes before handing over more funding. Republican offers to simply "uphold current law" or "follow the Fourth Amendment" are insulting non-negotiations. Pass the targeted funding bill that pays TSA agents and supports FEMA while denying ICE the blank check Republicans want. Federal workers and travelers deserve better than this manufactured crisis.
