Vote NO on HB3817

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Jackson

From: A verified voter in Burkburnett, TX

April 14

The proposed legislation to create the criminal offense of "gender identity fraud" in Texas is deeply concerning and a clear violation of the rights and freedoms of transgender individuals. This discriminatory bill threatens to criminalize simply being one's authentic self and would have devastating consequences for the transgender community. Such legislation perpetuates the harmful myth that transgender people are being deceptive about their identity, when in reality, they are merely living as their true selves. Gender identity is a fundamental aspect of a person's identity that must be respected and protected, not criminalized. The transgender community already faces disproportionate levels of discrimination, violence, and marginalization. Rather than further stigmatizing and oppressing this vulnerable group, our focus should be on promoting acceptance, understanding, and creating a society where all individuals can live openly and freely, regardless of their gender identity or expression. I urge you to reject this misguided and unconstitutional bill that would infringe upon the basic rights of Texans. Instead, we should be working towards greater inclusivity, equality, and protecting the freedom of expression for all citizens, including our transgender brothers, sisters, and non-binary siblings. Let's build a more compassionate and just society for all.
