The continued imprisonment of Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador is a gross violation of his human rights and legal protections. As an individual granted withholding of removal by an immigration judge, his deportation to El Salvador was unlawfully carried out due to administrative error. The U.S. government has an obligation to rectify this mistake and facilitate his immediate return from the Salvadoran prison he is wrongfully detained in. Despite court orders directing the administration to take steps towards Abrego Garcia's release and return, officials have actively defied these rulings, claiming impotence in extracting him from Salvadoran custody. This is an abdication of responsibility. The U.S. government must leverage all available diplomatic channels and resources to secure Abrego Garcia's freedom and safe passage back to the United States where he has lived since 2011. Continued inaction condones his unlawful detention and jeopardizes the integrity of the U.S. immigration system. I urge you to call on the administration to uphold the rule of law, comply with court orders, and ensure Kilmar Abrego Garcia is swiftly and lawfully returned home to the United States. His wrongful deportation and ongoing imprisonment demand urgent remedial action.
