When we are children, we are taught about the principles of right and wrong, about justice and fairness. We then hope to live in a world that respects these principles. Today, this hope is in danger of being shattered as I write this with a heavy heart, reflecting on the dire situation in Palestine. It is troubling to comprehend that the country I love, the United States of America, is directly funding actions resulting in the violation of basic human rights, in the destruction of lives, and carving deep scars into the face of humanity.
The images we see, the stories we hear, they haunt us daily. Is it not contradictory that while the American Dream promotes equality and freedom for all, the country continues to fund Israel’s repressive actions against Palestinian civilians? The money and arms we send play a central role in fueling a conflict that has led to countless civilian casualties, demolished homes, and uprooted families leading desperate lives among rubble and despair. Would we accept our tax dollars are supporting such atrocities against any people, let alone the Palestinians?
The time to ponder over these injustices has long passed. Now is the time for action. We must end the bombing, stop the violence, and bring an immediate ceasefire to relieve the pain and suffering that these innocent lives are enduring. We must demand the abolition of these crimes against humanity and should aim for a peaceful resolution. In this era of advancement and enlightenment, the toleration of such actions is not only a blot on our character, but also a damning indictment of our values. Let's rise and hold our leaders responsible. Let's urge them to end the funding to prolong this outrageous conflict and let us all work together for peace.
