Stay Strong. Don’t Back Down to the Governor/ President On Redistricting.
To: Sen. Tomes
From: A verified voter in Mount Vernon, IN
November 18
I am writing as your constituent in Posey County to strongly urge you to publicly oppose Governor Braun’s call for a mid-cycle redistricting special session. His most recent public statement — where he openly admits coordinating map strategy with President Trump to “ensure the MAGA agenda is successful in Congress” — has made it even more important for Hoosiers to hear that you stand strongly against redistricting.
I respect that you have come out to say that you’re against redistricting. By standing strong, it shows that we are all Hoosiers first — and we all deserve a stable, transparent electoral process that isn’t shaped around a national political agenda.
Indiana’s maps were redrawn in 2021 following the Census and updated again in 2023. Nothing has changed demographically or legally to justify another redraw now. When a governor frames redistricting not as a constitutional responsibility but as a tool to influence federal political outcomes, it undermines trust in the process and in the motives behind it. And let’s be honest, it is cheating in our elections.
To many voters — myself included — it looks more like a coordinated effort to secure partisan advantage ahead of 2026. I believe that as a legislator, you have a responsibility to reassure your district and Indiana will not participate in this trend. You serve all Hoosiers in your district.
I’m asking you to continue to stay strong and provide a clear, public stance against mid-cycle redistricting and affirm that Indiana’s maps should only be redrawn through the normal decennial process, not through political pressure or special sessions.
Thank you for your time, your service, and your concern about this important issue.
